Join the Two Rivers Wild Ride!

On Saturday, November 7, join the LandHealth Institute and the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia, for the Two Rivers Wild Ride urban bike tour.  This city-wide tour will examine the ecology of the grittiest parts of the city while experiencing first-hand the state of bicycle connectivity in Southwest Philadelphia.

The tour will begin at the South Street Bridge, continue south to the Grey's Ferry Crescent trail, then cross over the Schuylkill River to southwest Philadelphia where a long stretch of trail is proposed to connect Bartram's Garden to Ft. Mifflin. The group will then continue back over the Platt Bridge, through FDR park, and north on Columbus Blvd. to contrast the waterfront of the central Delaware. To conclude, the tour will finish at Washington Avenue Green, approximately two miles east of the starting point.

This unique, urban tour through Philadelphia is for confident riders ages 16+ and we encourage you to register in advance. The tour is about 16 miles and refreshments will be served along the way. Come out join us! You can register here

Circuit Spotlight: Mark Edwards

Mark Edwards, also-known-as kraminthemark on Instagram, is an avid cyclist and photographer, living in Philadelphia. He takes photos from all over the city and shares them on his Instagram page, many of them taken during weekend bike rides. We interviewed him for a quick blog post! Be sure to check out his images and give him a follow at @kraminthemark

What is your favorite spot #onthecircuit?
My favorite spot #onthecircuit is still underconstruction. The Manayunk Bridge. Once it is completed, it will give the best views of my neighborhood. Until then, the South Street Bridge is probably my favorite spot.

What is your favorite ride in Philadelphia?
My favorite trail in Philadelphia has to be West River Drive on the weekends, closed to traffic. It's so nice to be able to open up on the road and not have to worry about traffic or anything.

Running or biking?
Biking, for sure. Although the SRT, Schuylkill Banks and MLK trails are great for running.

What inspires you to take pictures?
The scenery and the views. So many beautiful landscapes, sculptures, and city scape views can be found on the trails.

Any pointers for photo takers everywhere?
My favorite trail photos are the #solobikeparking shots (a trending new way to post photos on your ride), but I also like to get a perspective you don't normally see when I'm photographing anything. When on the trails, try your best to capture the beauty of the trail itself, the view it provides, and the activity you're doing. For example, solo bike parking pictures behind Boathouse Row from ground level showing the trail and the boathouses... Be creative and get as much into the shot as you can. Don't forget to look up at the sky during golden hour either.
