Circuit County Workshops Scheduled for October
During the month of October, the Circuit Coalition, PA Department of Conservation & Natural Resources (DCNR), and the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission (DVRPC) will host workshops in Chester, Delaware, Bucks, Montgomery and Philadelphia counties. The purpose of the workshops is to provide updates on Circuit Trail development in each County, discuss a range of current and on-going funding sources, and look at ways to further develop Circuit trails currently in the pipeline. Each Circuit Trails Workshops will be held from 3:30 pm – 5:30 pm on the designated day in each of the five counties.
These workshops will follow separate information sessions on the Transportation Alternatives Program (to be held from 2-3:30pm), which DVRPC and Pennsylvania Dept of Transportation will host to explain the upcoming competitive funding cycle for the TAP.
Registration for both the Circuit Trails Workshops and the TAP Information Sessions can be completed with the links below. You can register for either the information session or the workshop or both. There is no charge for either event.

Regional TAP funds three Circuit Trail Projects
On Thursday, June 26th, the board of the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Comission approved the awarding of federal "Transportation Alternatives Program" funding to three Circuit trail segments.
Here are some more details about what the awards will do for the Circuit.
- Neshaminy Greenway (Bucks) ($800,000) -- This project begins at Lenape Lane in Chalfont Borough and continues through New Britain Township, along the Creekside Open Space and into New Britain Borough at the Wilma Quinlan Nature Preserve. It then connects through the Goldeneye Open Space to the Nesahminy Greenway Trail (NGT) at the Upper State Road in Doylestown. The section of the NGT to the east will be under construction in 2015. The section to the west is fully funded for design and construction and will also be under construction in 2015. The trail will be an ADA compliant, 10' wide, paved shared use trail.
- Liberty Trail (Montgomery) ($635,000) -- This project will design and construct multiuse trail connections in the Landsdale Borough from the Madison Development to the Stoney Creek Park to help complete the Liberty Trail. The proposed construction will extend the trail through Lansdale Borough to the neighboring municipalities of Hatfield Township and Upper Gwynedd Township.
- Solebury Route 202 Gateway (Bucks) ($980,859) -- The Bucks County Route 202 Cross County Trail begins in Solebury and the Township has completed Engineering and permits for 4 trail segments. Two have been constructed between the D&L Trail and the intersection of Routes 202-179. Developer fees will construct the segment from 202-179-Kitchens Lane to 202-Sugan Road. This grant will buidl the structurally intensive Route 32 segment to creat a completly off-road trail between these destinations. The project includes a road diet, new off-road trail segment, a new pedestrian crossing, and interpretive signage.
NJ DOT Announces New Round of Transportation Alternatives and Safe Routes to School Funds
Applications are now being accepted for the 2014 Safe Routes to School (SRTS) and Transportation Alternatives (TAP) Programs. The solicitation for these federally funded programs is being administered by the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT), in partnership with the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority (NJTPA), the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission (DVRPC), and the South Jersey Transportation Planning Organization (SJTPO).

NJDOT’s application guidance document for the SRTS program containing the necessary information for completing an application and answering questions regarding eligibility and program requirements can be viewed here. The application guidance document for TAP can be viewed here
Applications for both SRTS and TAP are available through NJDOT’s online grant management system, SAGE (System for Administering Grants Electronically). The application deadline is May 15, 2014.

Some key things to remember before applying -
NJDOT has heard concerns about Technical Assistance and will be providing more technical support this year. Look for an upcoming webinar, local training/workshops and a tip sheet to improve you application. NJ Safe Routes to School already has developed a TIP sheet for SRTS.
Program managers like to emphasize that both programs distribute funds for reimbursement.
DVRPC has control of about half of the TAP money allocated to the South Jersey counties in its jurisdiction and will be prioritizing these three categories:
- Provisions of facilities for bicycles and pedestrians
- Conversion of abandoned railway corridors to trails
- Stormwater management projects
