Mercer County

In Mercer County the Delaware and Raritan (D & R) Canal towpath splits out from Trenton like a green necklace, covering 27 miles and doubling as the East Coast Greenway. Recently the completion of a small footbridge and path on the tidal portion D & R Canal in Hamilton Township created a new connection between Mercer and Burlington Counties. The Lawrence Hopewell Trail continues to work slowly toward completion - this mostly paved loop will be 20 miles long when completed and will connect with the D & R Canal at Lawrenceville.

In 2011, the DVRPC Regional Trails Program awarded $248,000 to the Lawrence-Hopewell Trail Corporation for constructino of the Lewisville Road Section of the Lawrence-Hopewell Trail.
