When completed the Delaware River Heritage Trail will provide an alternate route to the East Coast Greenway. Other possible long distance trails include the Kinkora Branch and the New Jersey Central Rail Trail. The County is currently focused on acquiring open space along the Rancocas Creek and has been adding trail segment in new parkland for what is one day to become the Rancocas Greenway. Most of the paved trail miles in the County are in Moorestown where developers are required to install trails as part of the Township Master Plan.

In 2012, The DVRPC Regional Trails Program granted $40,000 to the Burlington County Board of Chosen Freeholders for the design of theKinkora Trail Mansfield Township Community Park Connector. $500,000 for construction was subsequently awarded in 2013.
