Central New Jersey
The trails in Monmouth, Ocean and Middlesex Counties provide important connections to the Regional Trail network. The Delaware and Raritan Canal doubles as the East Coast Greenway through the state to Northern New Jersey while the planned Capital to Coast Trail will connect the Regional Trail Network to the Jersey Shore at Manasquan.
Monmouth County has been particularly aggressive in its trail building. The County recently doubled the length of the Union Transportation Trail and plans to complete it by 2013. The Henry Hudson Bikeway in the northern and eastern part of the County is the longest paved trail in the state which, when completed, will connect Freehold with the Gateway National Recreation Area at Sandy Hook.
