Schuylkill River Trail

The Schuylkill River Trail (SRT) is the premier recreational and commuter bicycle trail network of Southeastern Pennsylvania. More than one million people use the trail at Boathouse Row every year! And there’s good reason: the trail offers cyclists both urban and wooded landscapes, fresh air, public art, and one very beautiful river to guide your twists and turns.

Today over 60 miles of the trail are complete, and you can find sections in Schuylkill, Berks, Montgomery, Chester, and Philadelphia counties. One day the SRT will include the entire length of the 128-mile Schuylkill River, from its source in Pottsville all the way down to the Delaware River. Proposed additions include the Boardwalk (Locust – South Street Bridge), which is nearing completion, the Ivy Ridge Trail, and the Wissahickon Gateway.

In 2011, the DVRPC Regional Trails Program granted $142,630 to the Schulkill River National & State Heritage Area for design and construction of Reading to Hamburg SRT gap (Leesport section).

The Connect the Circuit website focuses on trail sections between Reading (in Berks County) and Philadelphia. Another website that encompasses the entire trail to Pottsville is managed by the Schuylkill River Heritage Area http://www.schuylkillrivertrail.com/

Please ride respectfully when in the busier sections of the SRT – you’ll share the trail with runners, walkers, and many other cyclists.
