In 2011, The DVRPC Regional Trails Program granted $500,000 to the PA DCNR for construction and survey work on the Berks County section of the Big Woods/Schuylkill-Hopewell Furnace Trail.
Also granted through the 2011 Regional Trail Program was $142,630 to the Schuylkill River National & State Heritage Area for the design and construction of the Reading to Hamburg Schulkill River Trail Gap (Leesport Section).
In 2012, the the DVRPC Regional Trails Program granted $60,000 to the Schulkill River Greenway Assocation for a feasibility study for the Monocacy Bridge sectino of the SRT.
